Geopark Spořilov

About location

In the Prague Geopark Spořilov you will find more than 50 exhibits of rocks from various parts of the Czech Republic. You will learn about igneous rocks formed in the Earth’s interior or from volcanic lava on the surface, sedimentary rocks formed by deposition in ancient seas or rivers, and metamorphic rocks transformed during mountain-building. Fossilized tree trunks and cephalopod shells millions of years old can also be seen. Thanks to the interactive game Kámen mudrců (The Philosopher’s Stone, available in Czech only), you will get an idea of how the Earth’s crust has developed and evolved in the Bohemian Massif over hundreds of millions of years.

Detailed description of rocks and brochures for download can be found on the website of Institute of Geophysics.
